Re: Operation Distant Wind 2 6/12/10 9AM-2PM Mantua, Ut
Safety:
For your protection ANSI rated safety goggles or equivalent must be worn at all times. If glasses are worn they must be of the wrap around style and guard the sides, top and bottom of your eyes, and also be able to stop a projectile from entering at any angle. Sunglasses or prescription glasses are NOT approved eye protection and you will not be allowed to play with them.
Glasses must be worn from the time you arrive till the time you leave, DO NOT REMOVE YOUR GOGGLES for any reason, including to reload or between games. If you have to remove them you must leave the area or find a safe zone such as a vehicle. Remember, there are many other hazards on the playing field as well. Sharp branches at eye level, rocks, holes, cliffs etc. If a "no fire zone" is established you may remove your eye protection there. Anyone firing any weapon in the "no fire zone" will be asked to leave immediately.
Please dress appropriately for the terrain. Boots with ankle support, long sleeve shirt, elbow and knee pads are useful to remain comfortable and safe.
FPS Limits:
Operation Distant wind has a strict policy that every AEG or pistol must shoot at no more than 410feet per second with .20 BBs. Any player may be asked at any time to shoot for the chronograph in order to obtain the actual speed the gun is shooting out. If the player’s gun is above the 410fps limit the gun will not be allowed in the game until it is within team limits. Snipers and support specialists do not follow the same limit.
NO METAL BB's. or pellets are allowed at any time.
Minimum Engagement Ranges:
There is a minimum shooting distance of 25 feet for AEGs firing 300-410 FPS that should be followed at all times. This means you cannot fire your AEG at anyone closer than 26 feet.
Snipers:
425 - 550 fps 100’ minimum engagement range (single shot, no automatics, snipers only). NO METAL BB's EVER!! Snipers should always go for the body shot.
Hand Grenades:
1) May not be thrown directly at another player
2) All grenades have 10 second stun effect (10 ft radius) and if hit by bb you are KIA.
3) When thrown to an area not under direct observation must yell grenade and wait 2 seconds. i.e. when thrown to a higher floor to clear the top of a stair well.
40 MM Grenades:
Standard FPS engagement ranges apply.
RPG and Mortar:
Impact within 10 ft counts as a hit.
Surrender Rule:
The surrender rule is one of the most important safety rules. It is used when two players are in close proximity (within 25 ft) and one player has the drop on or surprises the other. The player who has surprised the other must call for surrender. The call must be loud and clear. Once a surrender call has been made neither of the two players will shoot the other, and the player who was surrendered will call hit and leave the game. In order to call a surrender you must have a clear shot, gun pointed at opponent, and the gun must be functioning.
Once you are surrendered you cannot shoot back, YOU ARE OUT. Players shooting back will be addressed by their team captain or an administrator, and depending on the judgment that player could be asked to leave.
Dead rags:
It is recommended that players carry with them a 'dead rag', a peice of brightly colored cloth or hat that they can produce after being hit and declaring themselves out to help prevent being shot as they walk off the field of play.
Zero Minimum distance weapons:
When using a non sniper springer weapon on single fire, a player may fire on another player closer than 25 feet. GBB pistols (not co2) and springer shot guns are a good example of this kind of weapon. Players will not intentionally aim for the face or head of another player when using these rules. If the only shot that presents itself is for the head or face you will not take the shot.
Respawns:
The number of times a player may be hit and eliminated from the game varies on a per game basis. Standard time to respawn at CVA is five minutes at a designated respawn point.
Honesty:
Unlike paintball, there is no mark left when a player is hit. This makes honesty a key part in the games. If you are hit anywhere you are dead. This includes friendly fire, gun hits, articles of clothing, and ‘unknown’ hits.
If you are hit you must immediately yell HIT and turn away from the shooter placing your gun above your head. After you are sure that the person shooting you has stopped exit the battlefield to the safety zone.
Once you’re dead you may not communicate with other players unless allowed by event rules. You may however leave behind ammo, guns or any other supplies that you think your team might need. This is purely optional, but if you do you must leave any items where you were shot.
You may not call hits on another player. Many times if a person is diving through the brush or running they may have just not felt the hit, and most players will go out if you are sure that you hit them. Lastly, if you think you are hit but not sure just be honest and go out. There will always be another game.
Ricochets:
Ricochets do not count as a hit, UNLESS the BB's are from a claymore or hand propelled grenade.
Disputes:
All disputes, conflicts, or concerns should be directed to one of the team captains. If you are already assigned a team then your team captain should be notified in person, by email, or phone. If you haven’t been assigned a team you will be assigned on the day of the event.
Captains:
Team Captains and administrators are what keeps this thing going, they donate their time, resources, and knowledge to make each event what it is. They should be considered to be a source for all players to go to for questions, comments, and ideas. They are all very approachable and willing to hear new ideas or work through problems. All decisions, such as game time, events, new rules etc must go through them.
Water:
All participants must bring drinking water to all games. No matter what the temperature or the conditions.
Non Participants/"Civilians":
If any player notices that a person has entered the field of play who is not part of the group participating they must call for a cancellation of engagement. This means that if a hiker is walking towards the field where you are playing you need to call out "Civilian, stop playing" or something else that informs everyone that the hiker is entering the field. Every player should relay this message as soon as it is heard to ensure that everyone stops. No player is to move from their position while the hiker or other non participant moves past. Once the non participant is far removed from the field of play either a team captain or CVA official will call the game back on with a count down. We are often on public lands and should remember that others are also enjoying the area and it isn't our exclusive right to be there.
ANYONE WHO DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THESE RULES MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE AT ANY TIME. IT IS NEVER APPROPRIATE TO AIM AT ANYONE WHO IS NOT INVOLVED IN THE EVENT, "I was just joking" IS NOT AN EXCUSE AND COULD GET YOU KILLED. IN THE CASE THAT A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER IS PRESENT ALL PLAYERS WILL FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN AND KEEP THEIR HANDS AWAY FROM THEIR GEAR.
Waiver:
For now we aren't going to require that participants sign the fore mentioned waiver, but we want everyone to be aware of the risks involved. Cache Valley Airsoft was organized for the sole purpose of making it easier for individuals in the area to get together to enjoy the sport of airsoft. Anyone who participates in events that are organized by CVA should be aware that they take on the following risks and that CVA is not responsible for any accidents that may occur. Participants under the age of 18 years old must get their parent or guardian's permission to attend any events and that the responsibility of the individual is still under their care and has not been transfered to CVA.
As a prospective participant in the sport of Airsoft, it is extremely important that you have an understanding of the risks of personal injury and/or death that are associated with the sport. The following is intended to inform you of the general nature of those risks before your participation begins. The following is not intended to be an exhaustive discussion of those risks. Accordingly, should you have any questions pertaining to the nature and extent of those risks you should question the management of this field. Only after you have satisfied yourself as to the nature and extent of the risks involved as a participant in Airsoft should you sign this document.
1. The sport of Airsoft is an inherently dangerous activity. The game involves the use of high powered replica guns that fire plastic pellets at high velocities. Without adequate protection these pellets could break or penetrate the skin on impact. Should a pellet strike a person in the eyes, ears, nose or any vital area of the body that is not adequately protected, temporary or permanent injury, or in extreme circumstances, death, may occur. Participants are required to wear safety goggles that meet or exceed the ANSI z 87.1 standards and form a complete seal around the eyes and nose. Participants are also advised to wear face, ear, neck and groin protection. While participating in games participants are discouraged from shooting at the Face, Ears, Neck, and Groin of other participants.
2. Participants play the game on rough and hazardous terrain, and there remains the risk that a participant could be injured as a result of the hazardous nature of the terrain. Hazards include but are not limited to; sharp branches at eye level, rocks, holes, cliffs and other unpredictable hazards. Participants are responsible for dressing appropriately for the terrain. Boots with ankle support, long sleeve shirt, elbow and knee pads are highly recommended to remain comfortable and safe. Also caution must be taken when crawling, running, walking, and especially climbing around the hazardous terrain.
3. The sport of Airsoft involves rigorous and strenuous physical activity on the part of the participant. Accordingly, a person should not participate in the sport if he or she is not in good physical condition, or has any physical or mental illness or handicap which could be worsened by such participation or make the participant more vulnerable to physical injury or death. In some cases, players may be exposed to plants or elements that could cause serious injury as a result of an allergic reaction.
4. It shall be the responsibility of each participant to obey all rules and utilize all safety equipment at all times. Safety equipment is designed to minimize the risk of injury and/or death, but its proper use does not guarantee that such injury will not occur. By signing this Waiver/Release the undersigned (and, if applicable, his or her guardian) acknowledges that he/she has read the foregoing disclosures of the risks and, further, agrees that he/she assumes all such risks and will hold the owners, operators, participants, and all of their agents and employees completely free and harmless from any and all damages from physical injuries and/or death which may result from the undersigned's participation whether outside or inside any of the fields facilities.
5. Also, by signing this document you give permission to Cache Valley Airsoft to post your information and/or image on the internet.

Should I add the waiver to the safety section on the website?
Re: Operation Distant Wind 2 6/12/10 9AM-2PM Mantua, Ut
It's already there. I just copied over our existing entry and changed a few specific items. I would like to see the addition of the grenade and mine rules if everyone agrees, but, that will be a conversation for a different thread. It might not hurt to have the waiver portion as an available download for printing in case we ever decide to have signed copies on file.

Canadians did dominate last game. It's a lot to live up to. I mean, not to boast or anything, but the Canadians almost held off the Russians all on their own. I guess the Americans did help in the last minute. Man this is going to be fun. It was so great last year even when I got blasted by Andrew and the BIG guns.

I agree with you James that the Canadians did dominate especially when the Americans can in and joined their side. Reid put me down tentatively for now on what ever side you need me on. I will know closer to the event if I will make it or not.

Prologue:
Distant Wind 2 Breaking News
They moved swiftly, silently, with purpose, under a crystalline, star-filled night in western Siberia. They were Muslims, though one could scarcely have known it from their speech, which was Russian, though inflected with the singsong Azerbaijani accent that wrongly struck the senior members of the engineering staff as entertaining. The three of them had just completed a complex task in the truck and train yards, the opening of hundreds of loading valves. Ibrahim Tolkaze was their leader, though he was not in front.
- Red Storm Rising (ch. 1)
Dateline: Khanty-Mansi 2/1/2010
Russian Prime Leader of the Proletariat Dontsharewithanyone announced today that Muslim extremists had managed to sabotage the primary transshipment point for oil coming from the Siberian fields.
The Siberian fields provide approximately 70% of all Russian oil and their loss will likely cause an economic collapse unparalleled in modern Russian History.
Dontsharewithanyone has called on Canada, as the closest fields from which to draw, to "open your hearts and oil production fields to Russian exploitation to prevent the suffering of our people."
Canadian Prime Minister Whosaidit is quoted as saying " yeah, right" in a terse reply that has apparantly stymied Russian hopes for immediate relief.
