sniper rifles
I recently bought a used sniper rifle. I have zero experience with them, but thought it would be fun to learn. It does NOT have a great spring. The prev owner used .2 bbs in it, which seems way low to me. I want to upgrade my spring and internals to handle it.I am wondering
How many of you guys have and use sniper rifles regularly and consider yourselfs familiar with the universal characteristics of sniper rifles?
What is the FPS of your sniper rifle with .2, what spring do you have, what weight bbs do you use, and what weight would you like to use if dif?
What is your maximum effective range? (How far away can you hit a T-shirt size target 9 times out of 10?)
Do you wear a ghillie when you use your sniper rifle?
Where is a good place to get good heavy ammo at a good price? Do any of you buy .3 or higher in bulk? Is .3 to heavy for, say an m150 spring?
Do you have any other thoughts or ideas or advice that you think would be useful.
Lots of questions I know. I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Re: sniper rifles
Sorry to say I also have zero experience with spring powered bolt actions. I've been around long enough to know some of the right answers, but haven't actually done it myself. Which is plenty of reason to keep my trap shut on the subject. I can however offer you some great places to find those answers.

Re: sniper rifles
i have a Mb05
http://www.hitguns.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=WELL-MB05-Scope-Bipod
it says with .2 it shoots 500+ but i have talked to some people and they say after use the spring isnt as stiff and the FPS drops i havent used my enough to notice but i use .3 gram madbul bbs and they are pretty accurate. as far as the sight goes my came stock with the gun and is alright, to sight it in i would recommend using a bore sight and then adjusting the hop up and scope as needed. i got my bbs from tactical airsoft supply in salt lake but i do believe you can order them from most retailers online. i have mine sighted in at about 50 yrds (note: i sighted it in right as the snow came so i didnt have that much space)
and i hit with in about a 5-7 inch square. although if you set up the hop up right and use a little heavier bbs you can zero in to about a 3-5 inch square at about 70-80 yrds. i do not have a ghillie weed suit but like panzerfaust said i got a lot of my info from the site he gave. also i think bolts are sweet but theres a kid that comes frequently to the games down south uses a modified aeg that is very accurate and freakin awesome. im looking into moding my ak 47 into a sniper putting a 609 barrel and a mater of other upgrades. check out this video.

Re: sniper rifles
ya, Im interested in learning as much as I can about what you guys like and are using. I bought some .3 bbs and when I turn the hop up all the way up it still curves up way to high. So if I boost the fps I am def going to want heavier than .3 im thinking.mayhem wrote:kinda like my g3 long rifle with a 650 mm barrel, I just reread your post, were you referring to me?

Re: sniper rifles
Ps I got it chronoed and it shot at something like 450-460 with .2. The inner and outer barrel, hopup mech and bolt rotate a little, which is killing my accuracy. I found out a screw is broken which is supposed to hold it ridged, so I need to remove the broken portion and replace the screw.

Re: sniper rifles
I just started a new black project- i am thru with the off the shelf gearboxes, I have now gone thru 7 version 2 shells- I just got finshed with the reverse engineering of the clamshells, the new proto types are going to be cnc milled out of 4140 chromolly steel , Weight is not a concern to me i just want reliability out of my hardware and the chinese junk is not cutting it, everyone of my gearboxes has either snapped off the pin that prevents the selector switch from hitting the gears or has cracked at the front near the nozzle.

Dude. You're CNC'ing your own Version2?
That's truely awesome, I'm interested in how it turns out.
Also, why aren't you coming up tomorrow? call in sick

Re: sniper rifles
that really is impressive. How in the heck are you doing it, do you have access to a machine shop? Thats pretty cool. What type of spring are you running to be putting so much stress on your gun?

I have my own cnc machine shop, yeah andrew i am trired of throwing money at this and have a few ideas of my own, my goal is to have a gearbox that could handle up to 700fps -mostly I want it to be at 420-450 range for sniping

Re: sniper rifles
wow. well once you go to the trouble of engineering it you should market it.mayhem wrote:I have my own cnc machine shop, yeah andrew i am trired of throwing money at this and have a few ideas of my own, my goal is to have a gearbox that could handle up to 700fps -mostly I want it to be at 420-450 range for sniping
