Looks like you haven't defined your choices yet. What style of AEG is in contention with the Thompson?

Are you more concerned with looks? Would it be more fun to have variety? You could get a nice gun for $200 and add extra gizmos and upgrades. But I wouldn't suggest that course even though a lot of people do that because they feel that their gun needs to be super uber.

My suggestion would be to get a nice AEG around $150-180. Used is a good way to start and there are plenty in the area. Then with the money left over I would find a good pistol (I prefer AEP) so that you have a close range weapon. Don't upgrade anything until you have played at least one game with it. Most importantly is to come out to games because our group has a variety of gear and it is nice to feel the heft of a gun and see what ones you like. This will set you back about $250 but it will offer you a variety of play styles with the two weapons. Getting two AEGs just makes you pick between them.

They don't really need any upgrading. They are pretty swell straight out of the box.

You can find some good not overly priced AEG's at airsplat from around 100-200 bucks. Just pick a style of gun that you like and then look for a gun. Don't just look for fps. Fps is not what defines the level of gun you get. You could get an awesome SRC gun that rocks for 200 bucks that shoots 330 feet per second. It's still a great gun.

Again, who are you? Introduce yourself in the proper area so we know who we're talking to.
