New Website Empty New Website

James

Here is a website I threw together this morning with some of the new pictures we took on Saturday. Also it is just being hosted by the Universities free server for students. Feedback is always welcome. I think if we get this one so that it has what we want on it. Mostly I am playing around with the layout and getting some content that can easily be transferred to a more professional looking site.

For the team sections, I just grabbed what I could find on the forum and filled in a bit with my imagination so it just wouldn't be empty. If people could send me a detailed list of the gear they generally use at games I will put it next to their profile. Oh, and if you don't want your information up there because you feel that the government will use it to track you down, let me know and I will take it off. I will only be using first names unless you share it with another in which case I will put up a last initial as well.

Please, any team banners or other materials you want up, send to me with my gmail address.

Looks good so far. I vote for a new picture for myself. I think the one on the site is geekier than I actually am

I agree with Reid....the snow man is a bit too much....okay, a lot too much

Alright, I swapped out the banner, though I am going off of a limited supply of resources and need more than just "change it" comments. If you have something that might better fit the slot then send it on over. Plus, I think that the snowman is fine and fits nicely for a 20 minute photoshop bit of fun. What I hope is that more of you might advice on things that would be helpful to those who happen upon the site. Such as the idea that James provided by putting up an Armory link. This will eventually show all of the gear that we have with reviews and recommendations. Also it will showcase the magnificent abilities of Andrew in making some awesome weaponry.

I've thought of something else that I am hoping to add to the site. I think it is about time that our competitiveness between teams comes forward a bit. I really like the scenarios that people are coming up with and that we are playing at each of the events. I also like that we play some small games and are a little more straight forward. Since the objectives in the scenarios are a bit more complicated and there isn't always necessarily a straight forward winner we will not put up any stat's for now, though perhaps a comment will be posted on the website saying who wooped who.

Anyway, what I want to do is put up a running tabulation of a few standard games showing who wins overall. Things like, Capture the flag, best Attack and Defend times, straight Elimination, or whatever we decide shall be put up and displayed on the site for stats.

Example:
PI CTF - 1 B37 CTF - 0
PI Best Defense - 8 minutes with 5 against 7
B37 Best Defense - 13 minutes with 7 against 5
Elimination Battle Standings: PI - 7 and B37 - 10

So I think at every event we can play just one or two official games where the teams are split up not to be even but based on who shows up for your team. The only thing I worry about, is competition can make people less honest. If that happens we'll scrap this idea all together because I would rather just have honest fun. But I think we can pull off a bit of competition and I think it would bolster unity within the teams and perhaps get us working to become better at the sport in general.

I saw an offer for a free registration of a domain and took it. CVAIRSOFT.com is born. Right now everything ends up looping back to the original host, but at least we have a respectable domain name now.

Ok, so today's project that I am working on is the possibility of hosting our own forum. I like our little forum and I think it has served us well. Yet there are some features that I don't like and some others that I wish we had. Particularly I would like to be able to see all messages that I have missed since my last visit in case there are more than just the 10 most recent posts. Also being able to customize things a bit more would be nice also along with administration and easy access. It would be great if we could put people into their individual teams and only they could access certain areas, without having to put a password in every time. So these are the sorts of features and changes I hope to make. What is everyone's opinion? I know it would mean that everyone would need to make a new account and we would probably need to find a way to transfer over some of the discussions that are taking place. I think if we find a good forum setup that we like and can host and manage ourselves, it would benefit us greatly in the long run.

So all of the options for hosting our own forum are not really worth the time. In the process I did find a free forum that I thought was quite nice. So I made a quick mock up and have been playing around with it and I really like it. Here are some of the pros and cons.

- Advantages -
Assigning people to groups with specific permissions (team objectives can be viewed only by the team members and such)
Able to view all messages posted since last visit instead of just the 10 most recent
No advertisements at the top
More Admin controls
Word Censoring
Easy Image hosting and Videos

- Disadvantages -
Having to get it all setup again
Can't change your vote in a poll
Can't view who has voted so far

Currently I have a couple of our events on our main page for the website. I would like to keep this format but soon I will no longer have my job when school starts and will lose access to Dream Weaver. This means that I won't be able to update the site. I think it would be good to come up with some sort of description we could put on the main page until I find another way to make updates to the site. Any other ideas or suggestions of what we might do? Also, if you are listed in the roster or want to be (I know we have a few new Phoenix members) then you need to get me a picture and info about you. Also if you want your picture changed and callsign, reid, just send me what you would like to have posted.

I don't know. Super cool airsoft dude sounds good but lacks the flow of my current assigned moniker. Might as well stay with what's there. I will begin answering to sheik to avoid the nasty confusion caused by names.

Just thought I would put this up so it is there. I know there isn't much reason for any of us to check out the website www.cvairsoft.com since most of our stuff is run from the forum. I would like to put up some recent information and additions to the team sections so that people don't see it and think it is just some out of date group. It is a good source for letting people in the area know where they can go to play.

So if anyone has anything they want updated to their profile let me know. And if you can think of something good for the main page like a description, that would be great and I will try to make those changes.
