Zach, welcome to the boards. Take a moment and tell us a little about yourself. How old are you, how long have you been airsofting, etc.

Airsofting is cheaper so that contributes to my list of pros for it. Have you got yourself an airsoft gun yet?

Re: I am new
Welcome. Airsoft 101 for beginners.
1. Be safe- Make sure you have googles that can withstand BBs. Also follow minimum engagement distances (see safety rules)
2. call your hits- this isn't paintball. We don't have big splats on us to tell us when we're out. You'll know when you are hit, so please be honest.
3. Have fun- this is a great way of getting to know a lot of really cool people, and is so much more epic than paintball. I know. I have done both.
As for guns, I would suggest a good JG for a starter gun. A couple of tips for choosing to think about:
1- know what you like. If you want an m16, get an m16. Don't settle for something that you don't like. Get a feel for a few guns, ask a few friends if you could test theirs. getting a gun that you don't like and are uncomfortable with will lead you to disappointment in your gun and lower your capabilities in combat. being comfortable with your weapon makes it easier for you to use.
2- look for upgradeability. JGs are great little starter guns, but you'll probably want to upgrade a few things in any gun. The best upgrade for almost every rifle is a tight bore barrel.
3- this one is just my preference- compatibility. Most people will be running with an m4 or m16 type rifle that uses STANAG mags (m16 mags), so, if you get a gun and are on a team, getting a gun that has the same magazine type will allow you and teammies to swap mags if you or they start running low on ammo.

Re: I am new
G&G makes some of the toughest guns so I'd recommend one of those. They're a little pricey but you could ask for money on your birthday and Christmas instead of other stuff.
