Land Nav

Post by Ninja Scott on Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:13 pm

This is kind of a random question but does anybody know where to get MGRS 1/25,000 topographical maps? My buddy and I are going to do some land navigation hiking, camping and such. Just looking for a good place to find good maps for cheap.

Along those same lines would anybody be interested in learning some Military land nav and possibly incorporate some ambush's along a predefined course?

If you can't find the military maps the USGS topo maps are pretty good as well.
If I recall correctly, there is a gov site that sells military maps for the U.S.

Try this...USGS sourcing

http://topomaps.usgs.gov/

I may be interested, depends on route and timing. Land nav is simple for anyone with a brain.

True that. I'm just use to MGRS way of doing things which is why I'm looking for 1/25,000 specifically. Good link though..

I'll try to find the site I found long ago. I'll post it if I find it.

If it is true land nav a few tougher rules need to be in place i.e. nobody allowed without water on their person, nobody under 18 without a gaurdian of some type, etc..

I'm in if we can get the dates right, etc. Probably an all day thing with either competing patrols or multiple ambush scenarios. Multiple battle points and mobile action!!!!!!!
Did I say I'm in?

It occurs to me that we probably want to post this on airsoftica and flc sites. The more the merrier. Would be really nice to have a platoon sized unit or larger for patrol action and quick ambushes.

I would suggest contacting the BlackWatch group down in Orem. I know they have done some longer engagements like this and they might have some suggestions.

Well if there is some serious interest... I'll look into it more for a little later in the summer, to give ample time to plan.
